Setting up WeChat Pay is simple, and easy! You only need a valid Chinese bank card, and a Chinese Cell phone number / SIM Card, then you can use WeChat Pay on our site, and everywhere in China.
Reasons for Setting up WeChat Pay:
1.Transferring Money
2.Sharing bills with friends in a WeChat group
3.Topping up your phone credits
4.Booking a taxi
How to Set it Up
STEP 1 - Get a Bank Card
You will need to get a suitable bank card registered with your passport, and not a Chinese ID. WeChat allows passport identification for the following banks only:
ICBC - Bank of China (Our Recommendation)
China Construction Bank
ABC - Agricultural Bank of China
Bank of Communications
Bank of China
China Merchants Bank (Not recommended for Wechat Pay)
Industrial Bank (Xingye)
Huaxia Bank
China Everbright Bank
*All other banks will not be able to issue a bank card to a foreigner as they require Chinese ID only.
Note: Foreign Master Card, Visa, and JBC Cards can be added to enable your WeChat Pay account, however they can not be used to make payments.
STEP 2 - Register Your Bank Card
Open WeChat and go to Me Pay Wallet Cards Add Bank Card
Type in your Bank Card Number
Type in your name
Type in your passport number
Type in a password
(This is a new password for your WeChat Pay account, not your bank card PIN number)
Note: If you are Mr. John Doe, the bank employee could have entered DOEJOHNMR, or MRJOHNDOE, or MR JOHN DOE, or JOHN DOE, or DOEJOHN, or JOHN DOE, or could have possibly have made a mistake in the spelling. Please check on your bank statement to see the exact spelling associated with your bank account.
CONGRATULATIONS! Your bank card is now registered, you can now start enjoying the WeChat Pay services.
